In-Law Crisis

This is the picture of Starbucks and Tie One On progress I planned to blog about on Friday. Obviously, that didn't happen, and I didn't blog all weekend. We left for work at 8:00 on Friday morning, and didn't come back home until 8:30 Saturday night. On Friday morning, Sweetpea got a call that his father had been rushed to the Emergency Room. After waiting to see if he would be transferred to a hospital closer to his home or kept where he was, we headed down to Long Island. Most importantly right now is - he's okay.

We stayed over Friday night to be with my Mom G. When we saw Dad G on Saturday, it was as if nothing had ever happened . . . but something did. On the job Friday morning, he got very, very dizzy. The last thing he remembers was that they sat him down in a chair and he said "Oh Shit" (that does make me laugh a little). His next memory is of being in the ER five hours later. All tests have come back fine, and he was released yesterday with orders to see his doctor today and possibly be re-admitted to the hospital near their house. The Cardiologist doesn't think is was cardio related, and the Neurologist doesn't think it was neurological . . . but it had to be something. In a way, it's a lot more scary when they haven't figured out what it is yet. Once you know what's wrong, you can deal with it . . . but the waiting is pure torture.

For now though, things seem to be okay. He feels fine, he's home, and there were no lasting effects from his episode. All in all, we feel pretty darn lucky.

Lots of news. Some of it good (congrats on your friend's pregnancy!) and some of it not so good. I'm relieved to hear that your FIL is better now. I'm so sorry you had the scare though. I totally agree that not knowing is the worst part of it all. I do wish that those medical types could just get it together and keep families informed! You'd think that someone could come up with a system where each patient has a family representative or something who understands what all the specialists are saying and can condense it down for the patients' loved ones. Doctors certainly don't seem to have the time anymore to communicate effectively with families...

Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now. Enjoy the baby knits and what's a DINK?

I'm soo sorry to hear about your FIL's ordeal. It must have been terrifying, not just for him, but for all of you, too. I'm glad to hear, though, that he's doing well now. I can imagine how hard it must be not knowing what caused the incident, but knowing that it wasn't cardio or neurological related is a pretty positive sign. Hopefully it was just a scary, inexplicable experience that won't ever repeat itself again. Sending lots of good thoughts and positive energy your way. Take good care..

Take this only as advice (from a medical malpractice atty) it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get a second opinion...I wish more people would do this. I'm glad that your FIL is doing okay, and agree that not knowing a diagnosis, or a reason for this episode,is troubling.
