How weird am I??

Can you stand one more list of weird things? This meme has been all over blog-land, and I've been tagged twice, so it's about time I get my weirdness posted. (Even though I've been tagged twice, I'm not posting twelve things. If I posted that many weird habits, I may scare you all off!!) I must admit, this is one meme I haven't tired of reading - I've been strangely fascinated by every one's weird habits. I guess it makes me feel better about mine. So here we go!!

Six weird things about me:

  1. I have never outgrown my childhood fear of escalators. I'm pretty okay on the up ones, but have big problems with the down ones. I stand at the top with my foot out, and about six steps pass by before I can work up the courage to get on.
  2. I can't take the "top one" of anything. Plates on the buffet table, magazines on the rack, boxes of cereal, cartons of milk, bags of salad greens. Doesn't matter - I always dig for the second or third.
  3. Brushing my teeth makes me gag. Flossing makes me gag too. Every morning and every night, I gag through my tooth cleaning regime. On a really bad day . . . . well, I don't want to "over-share" . . . . but lets just say on a really bad day I have to start the tooth brushing process all over again.
  4. Immediately upon arriving in a hotel room, I must unpack all of my belongings and put them away. I also force Pea to do the same. The vacation does not being until everything is unpacked.
  5. I am really annoyed by noises. People popping their gum will send me over the edge. Ditto for slurping beverages and music I can hear through their earphones. Loud car radios get to me too. And when people pop bubble wrap, I have a melt-down.
  6. I've read many "weird thing" entries about people not being able to sleep unless the sheets and blankets are made up just so. I'm on board with that one, but here's another. I also can not sleep if the closet door is open. Nope, the closet door must be shut tight when we go to bed. Don't ask me why - but I guess it's to keep the monsters from escaping.
So there you go. Six ways I'm a freak, and I didn't even delve into my OCD cleaning stuff, like rearranging things in the dishwasher if they aren't put in just so! That stuff could take up a whole other post!!!!

I've lost track of who has and hasn't done this meme yet, so I'll refrain from tagging anyone because I'm pretty sure I'm the last one to do it. But if you haven't, please consider yourself tagged and let me know you'll be posting your list!!! I can't wait to come read it!

Oh, oh, me too on the closet door thingy! The first thing I do in a hotel is remove the bedspread from the bed. If anyone ever had one of those CSI lights that showed bodily fluids I'd probably never step foot in a hotel again, but the bedspread is the most offensive item in my opinion. I also will never sleep above the third floor in a hotel. When my husband travels I always ask him to request lower-level floors. He's so tired of the phone nagging that he automatically asks for lower rooms now too. Heck, I could write a chapter on hotel idiosynchrocies alone. Cheers!

I do the closet door thing too when it is visible from my spot in the bed. If the closet is around the corner, it doesn't matter. I also have OCD concerning dishwashwers. It all started when I was trained as a child to scrub everything beforehand and then to arrange the items so they face the water streams. Can't stand finding the dishwasher "messy".

I think you're going to find that the closet door situation is actually not weird, but normal. I'm all about the closet door being closed because initially I didn't want the monsters to come out, but now, I just don't want to look at my clothes & shoes!

Love these. I haven't done this meme myself, but I'm right there with you on #2. However, I could care less about the closet door at night.

I'm very much with you on the closet door thing!

I'm the same way about not taking the top one. I always figure its the one other people have touched a lot. My husband never used to be that way and I actually trained him to do it too :)

2, 3, and 6 are mine. "Sleazy bar chatter" at work is what drives me nuts when I am on a conference call or trying to concentrate. Would that be the same as 5?

My kids BOTH do the closet thing. How about ask Pea to spray some monster spray? ;)

Here you go---

I have the brushing your teeth thing.
I can't stand to chew gum, and I gag when I see it in OTHER PEOPLE's mouths.
And the closet door----always closed. EVEN in broad daylight. GET what you need and close the damn door!!!!

I have a colleague at work who slurps his coffee. He is two cubes down and I totally want to wander down there one day and strangle him. I can hear it through my headphones for cryin' out loud! Grrr....

I guess I'm weird too. ;)

Funny, I leave my closet door wide open but lately the door to the room itself has to be mostly closed (not shut, but not open).

In my old apartment, back when I lived alone, I woke up literally every single night and thought there was someone standing at the foot of my bed. I always knew it was the open closet and went right back to bed. Every night! You'd think I would have started closing the closet door.

I totally agree with the closet thing. I especially hate it if it is just a crack open b/c I feel like something is watching. I have the same trouble with the back room that we use for storage, since I have to walk past it at night to use the bathroom.

I *so* enjoyed reading through your "6 weird things"! Oh my gosh, I'm so with you on the noise thing! Do you know "Ohropax", these little wax balls that you can stick in your ears? They'll probably go by another name over there, but you sure know them - well, I'm addicted to them! Honestly, I couldn't live without them, especially not here in our apartment. I have these wax balls in my ears all day long and basically only take them off when I go out - and then all those noises send me over the edge, more or less. Argh!!!

The Fetchings look great, I did almost the very same color for my MIL, she was ecstatic, I sorta felt like keeping them...

I am with you on the esclator thing they--everything about them is wrong!

Oh! I am totally with you on 1, 3, and 5! I think the reason you don't hear about people being sucked into escalators is because the escalator lobby owns the media.

I sat next to a woman at a meeting one time who was making some noise with her dentures... Oh. My. God. I've never come so close to physical violence against a stranger. I even always have the TV when Kevin and I eat so I can't hear him.

Hello,
I'm finding your blog for the first time and for a self-taught knitter you're very good. I too am a self-taught knitter and I can appreciate your work. You are so lucky to have people buy you knitting gifts. I'm trying to talk my family into it. Will be lurking to see what's next.

I am totally drinking the Kool-Aid with you on the open closet door thing!
