Knit-A-Long and Walk-A-Long

I seem to be quite the little joiner lately. A few posts ago I mentioned It's not a Gift. But we all know I'm a walking contradiction, so I've also joined Holiday Headstart, which is the complete opposite of It's not a Gift. The idea behind Holiday Headstart is that you craft (it's not purely a KAL) one smallish quick gift each month (or a large one, if you are very ambitious), and by December 2007 you will have twelve holiday gifts ready to go! I loved the idea behind this and I'm already half-way done with my first quick gift.

This is one Cabled Footie from One Skein, done in Wool-Ease because the intended recipient has two small children and can't be expected to make sure one pair of slipper-socks doesn't get tossed into the dryer and turned into booties for the little one! I hope to get the second footie cast on today and have it knocked out some time tomorrow. I can hardly imagine having a Christmas gift for NEXT Christmas finished in January!

Last month another Knit-A-Long caught my eye, and since I had already purchased the pattern there seemed no reason not to join the Bejeweled fun. On New Year's Day I cast on with the rest of the KALers, but haven't seemed to find the time to knit much more on it since then.

It's a fun and easily memorized pattern, so it will make the perfect mindless knitting companion for evenings in front of the television. Have you noticed I seem partial to the cranberry color lately? This yarn was pulled from my stash. Although I wasn't the least bit tempted to join any official Stash-A-Longs, I would like to make an effort to use up some of the miles and miles of yarn I seem to have accumulated.

Speaking of miles, I'm sure you've noticed my new little ticker above the posts. I am one of the hundreds of knitters who is pledging to walk 100 Miles by April 1st with Runagogo. I shamelessly stole the ticker idea from Elizabeth!! I think having the ticker up there will make me more accountable for my miles. I've been having some trouble getting motivated lately, so I encourage you all to nag me shamelessly if you see those miles stalling!

Bejeweled is looking great! Mine will be blocking this afternoon - I love the pattern! :)

I think the concept of "It's Not a Gift" & "Holiday Headstart" work well - it's keeping the balance of how you knit. :)

I like that Bejeweled pattern.

I love the shoes and the street on your ticker. Are there any walks coming up this spring that we could train for? Preparing for the Diabetes walk really got me going last fall.

That IS an awesome ticker.

Feeling into red lately?

Yet again...I have to tell you that I love this bloglines thing! I noticed that you posted, and stopped by. :) THANK YOU!
Wow, red footies! I often use that yarn for footies for my kids. Wow, a gift for this Christmas already??? How will you resist passing them out? Hmm...I would completely forget that I had them..LOL!

You are going to be so ready for Christmas! Don't forget to knit for yourself too (something I have no problem with!) Good luck with your walking. Kevin and I were in a very regular walking habit a couple years ago and I was doing about 75 miles a week. Things have slacked off quite a bit now through. QUITE a bit.

I would knit Christmas gifts but the ones I did knit...weren't appreciated:)
I love these socks you are knitting! I have that book. Reminds me I should take my time and look through my books more often for ideas.

I started the KAL, but I have not cast on for Bejeweled yet! However, this is my week!

I love the red that you chose!

Best of luck with the 100 miles ;)

oooooooooh can people still join the holiday headstart!?!?

Mind you I am kinda gonna do that anyway. I plan on knitting one thing each month for my knitting group for Chrissie pressies..that way I dont have to stress about knitting 10-12 things at Christmas to hand out on top of other things.

Ha! If there's one thing I've figured out about you, Karen, is that you are *determined*! Whether it's holiday knits or walking goals. You're going to make it, I know you are!

That holiday head start is the best idea ever. I think I may join, and use the first month to finish 2006 gifts :)

I'm totally impressed by your running goal! That's a lot of miles- I don't even like walking to the mailbox :)

Your sock and bejeweled beginning look great- can't wait to see the other 10 presents.
