Knitting

You may be happy to know that it's not just buying buying buying yarn over here. Yes, I have actually been knitting.

Olympic SocksHere are the Olympic Socks. They are a little bit big, but they are for my Bestus Buddy and her foot is a little bigger than mine, so I think they'll be okay. (Heidi, if you're reading this, do you like them? How are you feeling?? I'll call you tomorrow!!) Sorry for the shout-out, but she's home on bed-rest until the end of March, so I have to send her a special hello!!

I know, I should probably be much farther along by now. I should be very worried. However, I know myself, I work best under pressure. I still think I can pull it off . . . we'll see. I've come to the realization that I can do two at once socks, but I don't actually like to do them. I know, I know, when you're done you're done, no Second Sock Syndrome, blah blah blah. I'm just not a big fan of juggling around the two balls of yarn and switching back and forth. (Doesn't bode well for me and Fair Isle or Intarsia, huh?). I'm not saying I won't ever do two at once again . . . I'm just not a big fan right now. I seem to like working on them more in the morning when I'm "fresh", but if I try to knit them at night I absolutely hate them!!!

But I NEED a scarf!!!So, for night time knitting I started this!! (I know, Christine, I shouldn't risk angering the Knitting Gods by two-timing my Olympic Project, but I just couldn't resist.) It's the Lopi Lace Scarf from Weekend Knitting, except that I'm using Cascade 220. It's a really fun pattern to knit and very quick too. It's a huge relief to go from the size 3 needles for the socks over to the size 10's for this scarf. The picture doesn't show it, but the scarf knits all zig-zaggy due to 10 rows of right decreases followed by 10 rows of left decreases. I'll post better pictures when it's finished!! (And Chris, I left my head in this time for you, even though I hate the way I look in pictures and you can really see I need highlights desperately!!)

So nice to have a face to put with the name! :o)

I always cut my head off of photos, too. Abi (SpiderWomanKnits) yells at me constantly about it.

I also dislike two socks at a time - it takes too freakin' long! Yours are looking great, though - and so is your scarf!

The scarf is so lovely! It just got cold here in Austin (37 degrees is cold for here, yes indeedy), so scarves have been on my mind. I'm glad to have that heads up from you about the two socks at a time business, because I'm not sure I'm ready for that, and I need a reason to feel happy about sticking to one sock at a time.

Hye, I like that scarf! Looks great, and is it easy?

And don't you just love self-striping yarn...

I really like that colorway for your socks- maybe since it's a race to finish them, it's less fun to knit them at the same time?

i LOVE THE SOCKS. I also think it is good to have a big needle and little sock needle project for your wrist muscles. Good luck

Hey! It's Karen's head! Nice to "see" you. The socks look great. I think you're in good shape, Olympic-wise. The scarf is pretty. It's nice to have projects going that exercise different knitting muscles. Cascade 220 is my favorite. (BTW, I'm in desperate need of highlights too.)

Yay!! Show that pretty face off!! And I don't know what you're talking about- your hair looks great, too! I wish my hair looked that good... I'm always searching Wal-mart for sales on my "love your gray" Loreal Excellence. ;-) As long as I can keep my grays down to less than 25% of my head, I feel like I'm sorta breaking even. ;-) Your scarf is beautiful! You know I'm loving the color. And you've made such awesome progress on your socks! I think you can totally pull them off by the end of the Olympics- there's definitely gold on your horizon! Hope Heidi is doing well- bed-rest must be difficult, especially with a toddler around. Take care, Karen! :-)

Ugh! Bed rest until the end of March? Poor thing!

As for the two socks at once thing, it gets better w/ practice. I promise! The first time I tried it, I hated it, too. But for some reason, I kept at it and now I like it.

Does that scarf by any chance have cables between the lacy parts?

So at this point, what do you think....better to knit socks with dpns or with the circs? I've always been curious about using circs but I think I may be a die-hard with dpns. I dunno...what do you think? Is it worth trying?

Bed rest is a tough one - I learned how to knit laying down a few years ago out of sheer desperation! I have no doubt in my mind that you will pull off the socks in time for the end of the Olympics and your scarf is a great hand rester for you! Knit on and have fun :)
