Just another in the LONG list of reasons why I'll never be consided cool . . .

I'm one of those weirdos who feels the need to attend a Renaissance Faire in costume. Not the best picture, but the day was so HOT and HUMID I instantly regretted dressing in layers. (Don't you love the glare coming from my pasty-white bosom? I shutter to think the blog hits that phrase will get me.)

But oh, the Faire was so much fun. We saw horses and jousters and merchants and knife throwers and pickle sellers. And the Fiber Hut, where they were kind enough to teach me (again) how to use a drop spindle. I swear I'm going to get it this time. I was particularly interested in the shops selling costumes. From what I saw, skirts can go for about $50 and corsets run about $75. I couldn't scope out the prices on the under-dresses, but I'm more than satisfied already. You see, I made my own costume, with $20 worth of fabric from Wal-mart and a bunch of random notions I already had on hand. That puts me at least $100 ahead already.

But the absolute best part of the day was that I was escorted by my very own prince.
He'll always be my Knight in Shining Armour - even if he refused to wear the costume. :)

Coolness is over rated anyway.

Excellent costume. And just think of the Google hits you'll get for bosom + pickle + escorting.

We all still love you knowing this uncool little tidbit about you!:)

My mom was humiliated at a Renaissance festival in the 1970s so we are all slightly afraid to attend them, but I am glad you had fun!

This is why being an adult is so great: you no longer have to worry about being cool. And that is cool in itself. I love your costume, even more because you made it.

In my early morning stupor, I read knife throwers and pickle sellers as pickle throwers. Now I'd pay money to see that!

GREAT costume! Looks and sounds like lots of fun. They have one here, but since Hugh Heffner and his girlfriends were attending I opted to not go. I want hubby looking at me, the horses, the jousting, not Heff's girls!

Your costume looks fantastic! Ever since you left me that comment a couple of weeks ago re: my niece's skirt, I've been wondering how your costume came out...smashing, of course. isn't it awesome to see stuff for sale and be like, oh, i can totally make that!

i LOVE renaissance fairs (even though technically I've only been to one). i loved being called "m'lady" everywhere I went (because that *never* happens anywhere else)! :-) i didn't dress up that time, but loved watching everyone else's costumes. although it was super hot that day too, so i was kind of glad that i didn't dress in layers myself.

I love your costume! you look so cute!

The thing I kept thinking of with the rental costumes there was how gross they must be after someone sweats all over it. You KNOW they don't clean them every day. Yuck!

You are not a Wierdo. I hold a season's pass for Scarborough Faire I hardly ever go dressed as a mundane, I always go in garb, I have several different changes of wardrobe from wench to middle class. I am also Wench 1019 in The International Wenches Guild. Your not alone Sister!!! And don't ever let anyone call you a weirdo, unless of course is someone dressed in garb too.

Hahaha - that's why we love you Karen! Plus that fact that I am 100% certain you made your costume yourself. I bet you had a grand old time. Kudos to your Knight-in-Shining-Armour for humoring you. Sigh.
