WIP of the Week - Market Bag

Pea and I are officially on a diet. When the summer weather hit, I stopped walking every day like I had been. Even though I haven't been exercising, my blood sugars have been holding steady. Do you know what that means? It means, I'd lost my incentive to push myself to exercise.

But now, all of my pants are soooo tight. "Suck-in-your-breath-or-they-aren't-going-to-zipper" tight. Do you know what that means? It means, I've re-found my incentive to push myself to exercise. I also have incentive to make sure we are eating better. In doing so, I found out that our town has a weekly Farmer's Market, just a mile or two from my house. Apparently, everyone in town knew about this but me!

This week, I grabbed my Saturday Market Bag and went to check it out. It was small, but I still found everything I was looking for and had a lot of fun. What I found odd was that I was the only person who had brought their own reusable bag. There were plastic bags provided by each farm, and each customer used between one and five bags.

When I got home, I dug out a large ball of Lion Cotton that's been hanging out in the stash and I cast on for Elisa's Nest Tote. I haven't gotten very far, but I love it already.

I figure if I keep showing up with pretty re-usable bags, maybe others will be inspired to kick the plastic bag habit too. I think this pretty lacy pattern will be just the thing to inspire them!

I love that bag! It's on my "to knit" list. I stopped using plastic bags and I think it makes grocery shopping so much easier!

I'm on a diet too ... well, at least I'm trying not to consume everything in the fridge & pantry on a daily basis.

I love the colorway your using for the Nest Tote.

I have the same experience at my FM every week- all the booths have enormous rolls of plastic bags and even if they see I've got my own bags out they're still just automatically grabbing their own. Argh. Hopefully they'll get it by the end of the summer! Kudos on getting out more, I need to do the same so I want work on getting my cholesterol down.

We just started using canvas bags at the grocery store. We now have to steel ourselves for the dirty looks we get from the checkout people. We always got the look when we asked for paper instead of plastic; now I know they have a whole other set of dirty looks.

Kudos to you on walking again. We've got to get it in gear once this oppressive humidity moves on.

Oh you've inspired me! I've been wanting to make one but just haven't found the right pattern, thanks for the link! yay for exercising again! I need to do that too, maybe when gabe starts school, then i'll only have to worry about two of them... I love the color of you bag too, I'm afraid I only have boring colors of cotton in my stash... oh well:O)

Seriously. What is with the plastic bag thing? Our farmer's market is the same way. I've seen a couple other people carrying reusable bags, but not many. I can't stand all those dang bags around the house. It's bad enough with the regular supermarket!

I love the looks of the bag you're making so much that I downloaded the pattern and I hope to make some of these for Christmas presents. Hope all is well back east with you and that you're staying nice and cool.

I *so* hear you! I've neglected my exercise too all through summer and now my pants don't fit anymore, and gosh, it's a terrible feeling, isn't it? So, it's the same for us here too: Eating better, exercising more... argh!! ;( The walking sounds good though, I think I'll have to try that too!
And that bag? Absolutely awesome!

How did I miss this post????
I will have to make one of these! What a wonderful idea. I usually get paper bags lately and make sure to recycle them. But, this is even better.
